Arguably the oldest school in the country, the school has 5 houses: Lockhart, Jerviswood, Wallace, Hyndford and Braxfield and pupils are sorted into these by tutor group upon the first day of term. The school has over 70 teachers and around 15 subjects. The biggest department is Maths and the smallest is R.E. It has the largest Classics department in the country.

Mrs. Blakeley, one of the Depute Head Teachers helps to raise money for orphans over in Kenya through the school. In the 2005/2006 term Lanark Grammar raised £2,000.

Mrs. Melvin has been collecting for the Kenyan Orphans since the start of the 2007/2008 term after Mrs. Blakely retired.

During November 2008, pupils donated kindly to the charity to help raise money for Christmas Day dinners for the children in Kenya.
