Malegaon is a mid-sized town and the headquarters of Malegaon taluka in Washim subdivision of Washim district of Maharashtra state in India.Located on state hi-way joining south-east Maharashtra and Vidarbha to Southern India it is major junction for road based transport.

alegaon town is the most valuable town in the kingdom of raje vakata. In 912 the name of malegon is the creat of the malneshwar the temple of the god shiva. This temple made by raje vakata in 912 his engireer hamd so this temple is call hamdpanthi in this city poplution @25000 malegaon is a grampanchyat standing sarpanc is Dr Vivek Mane he is the first well educated sarpanch in this town anil nagapure. In Malegaon there is college named RAMRAO ZHANAK COLLEGE OF ARTS SCIENCE AND COMMERCE. Malegaon is exactly on the main road which is between WASIM and MEHKAR. There are lots of temples in malegaon area such as Nagardas Dev Sansthan, Davha, Shirpur.

There is legend that during medieval period this town was centre of Wrestling in vidarbha and Marathwada region. In medieval Prakrit,"Malla" was associated with Wrestlar, thus how this town got its name. Also its strategic location made it famous and sometime known as gateway to Nijam Shahi.

In modern days it is famous for cultivation of pulses, Soya, wheat and other agricultural products. Other distinction it has got from the excellent printing industry this town offers. It is famous in all its neighbouring districts.
