Mandana Rebecca Dayani[4] (born May 1, 1982) is the creator & co-founder of I am a voter., a nonpartisan civic engagement organization, and the president of Archewell, the media and philanthropic company founded by Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.[5] She is the former Vice President at the fashion and media company, Rachel Zoe, Inc. where she served as part of the founding team of The Rachel Zoe Collection, The Zoe Report, Curateur, Rachel Zoe Ventures, and produced multiple seasons of Bravo's The Rachel Zoe Project. She was later the Chief Brand Officer for the global digital estate sale platform, Everything But The House and the Executive Producer of its TV show project for HGTV. She is an Iranian-born American activist, attorney, entrepreneur, angel investor, and serves as an advisor to several tech companies. Mandana is the founder of The Learning Series, an event series for women leaders, and serves as an advocate for many social issues.[6][7]

Early life and education

Dayani was born in Tehran. She fled Iran with her family to Ladispoli, Italy, before being granted asylum as religious refugees to the United States through the help of HIAS. She first settled in New York City before moving to Los Angeles, California. Dayani attended the University of Southern California, where she received her BA and went on to earn a Juris Doctor from the USC Gould School of Law, where she was awarded the USC Summer Fellowship. Following law school, Dayani practiced law at Paul Hastings LLP as an associate. After leaving the firm, Dayani worked as a talent agent at a commercial talent agency. Dayani later pursued a career as a fashion and entertainment executive.[8]

Career

Early career

Mandana began her career as an attorney at Paul Hastings LLP as an attorney in the hotel and hospitality department. After two years, she left Paul Hastings to work as a commercial talent agent where she first met her then client, Rachel Zoe. Within one year, she left to go in house at Rachel Zoe Inc and to build and launch the Rachel Zoe Collection, a contemporary womenswear collection, The Zoe Report, a digital media company, Curateur, a subscription box business, and Rachel Zoe Ventures. She also oversaw licensing, publishing, endorsements, and television production for the company. Dayani left the company in 2015 to join Everything But The House, an online marketplace for estate sales, as Chief Brand Officer.[9] There, Dayani was a part of the leadership team that raised $84.5 million in venture capital and was the Executive Producer of their TV project for HGTV.[10]

In 2018, Dayani created and co-founded I am a voter. with Creative Artists Agency LLC (CAA), a nonpartisan movement that aims to create a cultural shift around voting and civic engagement by unifying around a central truth: democracy works best when we all participate.[11] I am a voter., has partnered with Disney, NBA, NFL, McDonald's, Stuart Weitzman, and Bumble. Their campaign to boost voter registration included participants Debra Messing, Lizzo, Stephen Curry, Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert Downey Jr., Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Sophia Bush, Dove Cameron, and Tracee Ellis Ross. According to I am a voter., the effort generated over 1 billion digital impressions and 250 media articles upon launch.[12]

The Dissenters

In 2020, Dayani and Debra Messing launched The Dissenters Podcast with Dear Media. The podcast features interviews with well known advocates for social issues including Glennon Doyle, Sophia Bush, Hillary Clinton, Jane Fonda, Congressman Adam Schiff, Amanda Nguyen, Lena Waithe, Preet Bharara, Jameela Jamil, Christian Siriano, Shannon Watts, Eva Longoria, and Patrisse Cullors.[13]
