Matthew Kennedy (born 1 November 1994 in Scotland) is a Scottish footballer playing as a winger for Everton. Kennedy previously played for Kilmarnock. He has represented Scotland at youth international levels.

Career[edit]

Kilmarnock[edit]

A member of Kilmarnock's under 19-squad,[2] Kennedy was promoted to the first team on 29 December 2010 as a named substitute for their match against Inverness.[3] He made seven further appearances on the bench that season. On 19 November 2011, aged 17, Kennedy made his first team debut as a substitute in a 1–1 draw against Hibernian at Easter Road.[4] Kennedy was supposed to start his first game for Kilmarnock against Dunfermline 2 weeks later but the game was called off due to heavy fog in the area. He did though make his first start against St Mirren.

Everton[edit]

On 31 August 2012, the final day of the summer transfer window, Kennedy signed for English Premier League side Everton for a "nominal fee".[5] He was assigned the number 31 shirt. Matthew Kennedy was called up to the senior squad as an unused substitute for the game against Reading on 18 November 2012.

Tranmere Rovers (loan)[edit]

On 9 January 2014, Kennedy signed on loan for Tranmere Rovers.[6] He made his debut on 11 January 2014, starting in the 1-1 draw with Walsall.[7] On 10 February 2014, Kennedy extended his loan spell for a further month.[8]

Milton Keynes Dons (loan)[edit]

On 26 March 2014, Kennedy joined League One side Milton Keynes on a youth loan until the end of the 2013–14 season.[9]

International career[edit]

Kennedy has represented Scotland at U15, U16, U17 and U19 level.[10] He was selected by Scotland U21 interim coach Ricky Sbragia, to play Portugal U21 at Estádio do Bonfim, Setúbal on 14 November 2012.
