Miro Heiskanen (born 18 July 1999) is a Finnish professional ice hockey defenceman who currently plays for HIFK of the Finnish Liiga. Ranked in the top ten eligible European skaters by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau, Heiskanen is expected to be amongst the first defensemen picked in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.[1]
Playing career
Heiskanen played from the age of 14 within the youth program of Liiga club, HIFK. In playing at the Jr. A level during the 2015–16 season, Heiskanen recorded 14 points in 30 games to be awarded with the Yrjö Hakala Award as the rookie of the year.[2] He was signed to a three-year contract extension to continue with HIFK on May 30, 2016.[3]
In the 2016–17 season, Heiskanen made his professional debut with HIFK in the Liiga at just 17 years of age. In playing the full season in the Liiga, Heiskanen as a regular on the blueline compiled an impressive 5 goals and 10 points in 37 games.[4]
