Peter Godwin wrote Mukiwa: A White Boy in Africa, a memoir about growing up in Southern Rhodesia in 1970s, as the former British colony collapsed to become Zimbabwe. Mukiwa won the Apple/Esquire/Waterstones award, and the Orwell Prize.

In 2006, he published a second memoir, When A Crocodile Eats The Sun, which details the ebbing of his father's life, set to the backdrop of modern-day Zimbabwe's apocalyptic decline.

Godwin was formerly a foreign correspondent for the Sunday Times (London) and later a documentary maker for BBC TV.
