Phil Johnson (judge)
Phil Johnson is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas. He occupies Place 8.
Johnson was appointed to the Texas Supreme Court by Governor Rick Perry on March 15, 2005 to fill a vacancy left by Michael H. Schneider, who was appointed to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas by President George W. Bush. Johnson was elected in 2006 to serve the remainder of Schneider's term, and reelected in 2008 to a full six year term. His current term will end in 2014.
Johnson was previously Chief Justice of the Seventh Court of Appeals of Texas, one of the Texas Courts of Appeals. Johnson was elected to the Seventh Court of Appeals in 1998, and became chief justice in 2002.
Johnson received his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law. He was a pilot in the United States Air Force from 1965-1972 and is a veteran of the Vietnam War.
