Regents School of Austin is a classical Christian school located in Austin, Texas.

About Regents

Regents School of Austin is the largest classical Christian Private school in the nation, located in Austin, TX. founded in 1992, Regents grew from only 17 students in 1st through 4th grades to nearly 900 students today in K through 12th grades.

Today, Regents is known for both its academic rigor and its excellent athletic program; however, the main distinctive of Regents School is its curriculum. The Regents curriculum is based on a classical education model called the Trivium. The Trivium is composed of three stages: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric. Each stage in the trivium corresponds to a stage in child development.

Regents Curriculum

In the Grammar stage (grades K through 6) when a child's brain is apt to memorize, Regents students are taught the building blocks for future subjects. These building blocks include phonics, Latin grammar, math facts and other basics.

In the Logic stage(grades 7 & 8), when a child would naturally become more argumentative, Regents students learn Formal Logic. This provides them with a framework of sound reasoning with which to begin building arguments from their building blocks.

In the final stage, Rhetoric (grades 9-12), students learn Classical Rhetoric as a way to polish their arguments and present them persuasively.

This unique model of education is what sets Regents apart from other preparatory schools. A student who graduates from Regents will not simply be able to pass an AP exam or answer an essay question. A Regents graduate is able to articulate his or her opinions artfully and persuasively to any audience with the confidence that comes from having been taught to think, not just to pass an exam.

Regents History

Regents was founded in 1992 by parents who wanted to teach their children to be life-long learners. These parents spent long hours visiting other schools, researching existing curricula and consulting education experts. They compiled and in many cases wrote the curriculum Regents used for most of its formative years. Some of those founding parents also served as teachers, administrators, janitors, athletic coaches, board members, carpool drivers and countless other roles that shaped Regents into the school it is today.

Regents met for its first few years at Park Hills Baptist Church before moving to Tarrytown Baptist Church. Regents spent many happy years meeting in portable buildings in the parking lot at Tarrytown Baptist before finally having the opportunity to purchase a permanent campus in 1998.

Regents had its first graduating class in the year 2000 consisting of only two students. Since then Regents graduates have gone on to attend top colleges and work all over the world.

Athletics

Regents offers the following athletic programs for the high school:

  • Football
  • Cheerleading

Coached by Beck Brydon and led by Chris Meynig, Juan Carlos Alonso, and Nolan Gore, the football team won its fourth state championship in 2006 in 4A. Regents has since moved down to 3A due to TAPPS' decision to realign the divisions. In 2010 the Knights defeated Bullard Brook Hill to win their fifth state title. Regents also boasts a state champion volleyball team. The volleyball team has dominated its division for the past four years. Golf, swim, and basketball teams have placed at State as well, but without winning a state title. The boys basketball team had a runner-up finish in 2006.
