Sonobe, Kyoto

Sonobe (園部町, Sonobe-chō) was a town located in Funai District, Kyoto, Japan.

As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 16,958 and a population density of 164.99 persons per km². The total area was 102.78 km². It was the home town of the legendary video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto.

On January 1, 2006 Sonobe was merged with the towns of Hiyoshi and Yagi, also from Funai District, and the town of Miyama, from Kitakuwada District, to form the new city of Nantan.

Sonobe serves as the administrative center of Nantan.
