Origin of Name "Henderson"[edit]

From what I understand, "Henderson" means "son of Henry". Henry was a Germanic/Frankish name, and as far as I can tell it was imported into Scotland by the Normans. What is the basis for the claim that the name originated with a "Pictish prince Eanruig Mor mac Righ Nechtan"? Eastcote (talk) 02:09, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There are several different origins of the name in Scotland. The article ought to mention this. The Hendersons claimed as a sept of the Gunns supposedly descend from a Gunn in the 1400s. There are un-related Border Hendersons, aswell. No idea about the Pictish "prince" stuff.--Celtus (talk) 10:07, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violation[edit]

The article was created by the sockpuppeteer Mjgm84 with a straight lift from the Hill book back in 2006. He could at least have used something that wasn't self-published! The article has obviously grown since then, but the original copyio was still pretty evident - I nuked the Origins section and a few other bits, hopefully the rest is OK but please don't hesitate to delete anything else that violates copyright. I've not spent much time on replacing it, but at least I've a ref for the Pictish thing. Attribution; Reliance on a single source[edit]

I was going to link to this article from elsewhere but I have not done so because it relies almost exclusively on one source. That is not in accordance with Wikipedia guidelines.

The Burning of James Henryson, 1407[edit]

A question was raised as to the accuracy of the statement that "James Henryson was burned as a heretic in Perth in 1407". Poems and Fables of Robert Henryson at xxxviii quotes Registrum Glasguense p. 316: "Combustio Jacobi Henrici apud Perth, A.D. 1407". Looking into this, I see several historians who interpret this Registrum Glasguense entry as mistaken -- that the referenced burning is to the burning of James Resby on that year and location. See, e.g., Fleming, David (1910) The Reformation in Scotland: causes, characteristics, and consequences p. 14; MacNab, Thomas (1933) Scottish Lollardy and its Contribution to the Reformation in Scotland with Special Reference to the Lollards of the West p. 29. I'll remove the text from the entry.
