Merge[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was no merge. TRL (talk) 01:33, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A recently created article at archaeological heritage of Armenia duplicates this one. There's no semantic difference between the "archaeology of" and "archaeological heritage of" a single country. Archaeology of Armenia is the better title per WP:CONCISE and because we have lots of Archaeology of... articles but no other Archaeological heritage of... articles.

Pinging Clarityfiend who suggested this at AfD and Klbrain who objected to the merge tag. – Joe (talk) 08:27, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Joe Roe:: There were multiple keeps at the AFD (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Archaeological heritage of Armenia), which is why I argue that the case isn't obvious and why, 4 months ago, you should have made a case. You're also biasing the discussion by pinging the one person who said merge, and not those who would prefer a keep. Having said that, I agree that there are problems to solve. I wonder whether the content at Archaeological heritage of Armenia might be better merged to Prehistoric Armenia. Klbrain (talk) 09:09, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The two keep votes were made before a merge was suggested, and the discussion was closed early with the explicit instruction that the merge proposal can be further discussed in the article's talk page. I don't see this as a controversial suggestion, so I didn't see the need to ping the whole world about it, but happy to @TheLonelyPather, Orchastrattor, Chiswick Chap, Archives908, and CycloneYoris: as the other participants in the AfD, if that's what you prefer.
Prehistoric Armenia isn't a good merge target because the majority of the content of Archaeological heritage of Armenia (from #Armenia in the Early Bronze Age (3500-2400 BC) down) concerns historic periods. – Joe (talk) 09:39, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Personally speaking, I still wish to have Archaeological heritage of Armenia deleted, but I respect the consensus shown by the community, and I will not push for another round of AfD.
I don't see it very possible to merge "Archaeological heritage of Armenia " into "Archaeology of Armenia": we have hundreds of words followed by only one citation. How much can we be sure that the information in the article is directly from the source, not some OR stuff? With that in mind, it is hard to pick out useful information from this article and insert them into Archaeology of Armenia.
I should've pushed for CSD A10. Anyways, happy new year to you all. Cheers, --The Lonely Pather (talk) 19:20, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

merge proposal[edit]

if the preceding merge proposal was ambiguous, hopefully this one won't be. Armenian archaeology has existed since 2015 and only been edited 32 times in 9 years. the scope is exactly the same as this article, and the quality is significantly worse. practically speaking, this won't be too difficult of a merge, since the majority of the article is unsourced and what's cited can be transferred to this article. ... sawyer * he/they * talk 16:59, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
