Some of the external links look distinctly like adverts to me, for example:

  • Cleanbikes - The UK's leading stockist of Monty bikes and spares.
  • Iolo bikes - A leading new manafacturer of custom trials frames in the UK

Any thoughts? -- Lordandmaker 20:32, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I've already deleted a few external links that were either local bike stores or personal trials sites of no use whatsoever. I left Cleanbikes as they're a major player in UK trials sales, and I was undecided about IOLO bikes. -- Urbanpoet 02:07, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a spam cleanup notice, removed the IOLO bikes link after checking the site, It breaks the wiki rules, got rid of the random bold links. But I am unsure about cleanbikes, due to their position Organising BikeTrial events. I think for the article depth there are too many external links. -- Alexx 16:22, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure the Trialspain is entirely relevant on the English wikipedia, and i don't think trialsshack is appropriate either, given that it's just a media host. I would suggest limiting the links to one forum and/or governing body per english language country, using whatever's got the widest ranging and appropriate information where theres a decision to be made. This seems, to me, to be the fairest way to do it. -- Lordandmaker 18:58, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I think that the links need stripping down, a lot of them were added by site owners new to wikipedia after this wiki was posted on a forum -- Alexx 19:44, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I propose that no commercial sites be linked unless they clearly provide information on bike trials, or the company behind the site is referenced in the article for a legitimate noncommercial reason such as widely accepted contributions to the sport. I know that one might be tempted to provide links for people getting into the sport to buy equipment but I think that the trials forums and other sites provide an easy gateway to that information. Also many of the pertinent trials retailers advertise their services quite clearly on these sites. Justtysen (talk) 07:09, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion Todo

[edit]

I think this article has many possible areas of expansion, like;

  • New Section covering the different evolved styles
  • More in depth information on how trials bikes are specialized, (expansion of current section)

I will make a start! Alexx 17:21, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You could also add:

  • info on key trial personalities (e.g. Martyn Ashton, Tongue Bros.),
  • possibly add the importance of Newbury, Berkshire as a hub for the development of trials riding in the early 2000s,
  • seminal videos such as Chainspotting and,
  • important frames such as the Azonic DS1 and Pashley 26Mhz

Article main picture

[edit]

I personally couldn't think of a more horrible, less representative picture for trials. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.213.173.115 (talk) 05:20, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trialsinoir

[edit]

The section of 'Trialsinoir - aka Street' is completly fabricated, and so blatently made-up. A complete deletion of the whole section is required and probably replacing with a section about general street riding.

The "Modstock" category should also specify that these type of trials bikes also have Mod bike (116 or 110 mm) dropout spacing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.162.109.161 (talk) 01:00, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Mountain bike trials"?

[edit]

Is the name really widely used? Are 20" trial bikes called "Mountainbikes"? If Bike trial is a part of Mountainbiking, "UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships" seems strange. (talk) 13:54, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

picture showing small chain-ring

[edit]

The http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:MTB_Trials_6_Stevage.jpg picture doesn't clearly show the small chain-ring. it's because the photo was taken from the top of the bike. And the picture became smaller when put on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_bike_trials#Bike_design

If there is another photo that taken from the right side of the bike, then it would be a better one I guess. (Wisnuops (talk) 17:25, 8 December 2009 (UTC))[reply]

File:MTB Trials 3 Stevage.jpg to appear as POTD soon

[edit]

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:MTB Trials 3 Stevage.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on February 16, 2011. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2011-02-16. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :) Thanks! howcheng {chat} 23:00, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Trials riding is a mountain biking discipline in which the rider attempts to pass through an obstacle course without setting foot to ground. Originating in Catalonia, it is popular within Europe and has a small following worldwide.Photo: Steve Bennett

Section request

[edit]

Could coverage be granted to the specific moves/tricks and the associated techniques used in the sport? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.92.1.48 (talk) 05:05, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
