Do we have any more detail on Reed as a Watford player? The Watford Who's Who doesn't hold any mention of him. There is, though, a possibility that he was sgned with us and didn't play, as I believe the book doesn't include them. HornetMike 15:16, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't want to do all the wading myself, but there seems to be a fair few articles on him here, most of which are oldish, and may contain some mention. Or maybe he's just one of those types who was unremarkable as a player, such as our old friend José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix. :) --Dreaded Walrus 15:34, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In an attempt to find out his date of birth (to fill in the gap in List of English Football League managers by date of appointment) I checked my copy of The PFA Premier & Football League Players' Records 1946-1998, but there is no mention of any Les Reed playing League football (nor any other Reed playing for the three clubs involved). So I can only conclude that while he might have been on the clubs' books he never actually played a League match for them. Qwghlm 13:03, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article's hardly NPOV, is it? 121.44.74.124 03:04, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Eggman" nickname

[edit]

I've removed Eggman from the nicknames, simply because a Google search comes up with a mere 3 unique sites (excluding Wikipedia mirrors and things not to do with this Les Reed). So while it may be used, I don't personally feel it is widespread enough for inclusion, I would say. Especially when compared to the seemingly comparatively high number of results for the newly-added Uncle Les --Dreaded Walrus 19:11, 8 March 2007 (UTC) not going to lie practically 3/4 of this is rubbish rather amusing though —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.108.173.2 (talk) 09:44, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Owed 700K by FA?

[edit]

The article said: "the FA still owe Reed £700,000 on his contract in a dispute that has not been resolved, as of November 2006." citing

"New man can be hit but Tom Jones won't be his assistant". Evening Standard. 2006-11-14.

That's now a dead link, and 5 years is too long to let it stand without bringing it up to date, so I've deleted it from the article. --Stfg (talk) 14:59, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

DoB

[edit]

The article had a footnote saying "In December 2006 Reed's age was stated as being 53, so it is likely he was born in 1953." citing

"Reed banking on his winning research to give Charlton lift-off". The Guardian. 2006-12-02.

But the article dates from 2 December and Reed's birthday was 12 December. In the UK, people are not usually considered to reach an age until the relevant birthday, so it is actually highly unlikely that he was born in 1953. I've removed the footnote. It was WP:ORIGINALSYN anyway. --Stfg (talk) 14:59, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
