Two issues: Sources and ambiguity of Codman as architect and interior designer

[edit]

I have two issues with the article as written:

(1)The article seems to be closely based upon this webpage: http://xroads.virginia.edu/~ma01/davis/newport/biographies/codman.html, but does not reference it; nor does the webpage itself contain any references.

(2) The article does not (always) distinguish between Codman's architectural designs (entire structures inside and out) and his designs of interiors. Also, sometimes Codman was commissioned to design only some rooms in a house. For example, Codman designed the only some of the interiors of the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park. Even then it is unclear whether Codman designed the interior of the rooms themselves - the architectural features - (these were most probably designed by the principal architects, McKim, Mead and White, who were noted for their interiors), whether he may have collaborated with MM&W, or if he functioned only as "interior designer" (choosing and placing furniture and rugs, etc.). It is known that Codman worked in all of these capacities for various other buildings. I have tried to clear this up for the MM&W and two Vanderbilt mansions mentiond in the article (which were designed by the firms of MM&W and Delano and Aldrich, respectively), but this ambiguity remains for many of the other buildings mentioned. It is not always easy to sort this all out in the sources.Visionofbeauty (talk) 15:52, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ogden's Homosexuality

[edit]

Nothing about it? I would have thought it was quite an important part of his biography. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.216.100.84 (talk) 21:30, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
