John de Courcey[edit]

The sentence about his descendants could perhaps be more carefully worded. NinetyCharacters (talk) 11:13, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stoke Courcy[edit]

The family Stoke Courcy took on this name by joining their two main possessions: Stoke in Somerset, and Courcy in Normandy. The name Stogursey is a language inclusion of these two names. The family did not take the name "de Courcy", or was not known with the name "de Courcy" after taking possession of the Stoke barony, as they were originating from Normandy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DidineZeTroll (talkcontribs) 13:44, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. The suggestion that the Anglo-Norman family of 'de Courcy' took its name from this English village is preposterous on its face. The de Courcy name derived from the family's caput in Normandy, specifically Calvados. (See Lewis C. Loyd and David C. Douglas's The Origins of Some Anglo-Norman Families.)
