Justification for retention. This person is the missing link between two branches of the Butler family. The Polestown branch was a minor branch of the family until the senior line failed to produce legitimate male heirs. At this point, the great-grandson,Pier Butler of Polestown went on to supply a line of heirs. However, little is known about his siblings. His nephew seems to have acquired lands around Roscrea. This person links went on to have a line of interesting progeny. I propose to creat new pages explaining their roles. So this person is the link between the two minor family branches. He fills in a lot of gaps in the family tree. Laurel Lodged (talk) 21:15, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This should then be mentioned in the main article about the Butler dynasty, because Walter Butler of Polestown (and his son) seem to be of no other import and notability, i.e. they hardly deserve articles of their own. De728631 (talk) 23:50, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Concur with the retention of the article. The article on Walter Butler provides the essential link to navigate between the article on Edmund MacRichard Butler and articles on the other Butlers of Polestown. Walter Bulter was considered important enough to be included on the genealogical chart of the Butlers of Ormonde in the recently published A New History of Ireland, Vol. 9, page 169, published in 2002 (ISBN 0198217455, ISBN 9780198217459).
