Merge[edit]

This article and Xist are clearly describing the same entity and need to be merged. It isn't completely clear which page should take precedence as they have had a similar amount of effort applied to them. My preference would be to keep this one as the article name is clearer. Basic questions[edit]

Okay, so this article is rather to densely written for me. I have some questions.

How is XIST expressed on an inactivated X chromosome? (Isn't lack of expression the definition of inactive?)
When is it expressed, in early development or throughout the life of the cell?
Does XIST play a role in how is it decided which X is deactivated?
How does XIST behave in people who are 47,XXY?
Are there any known homologs of XIST in non-mammalian taxa? (Birds, for instance have a ZW sex-determination system in which it is the males who have two identical sex chromosomes.)
