Tanja Gönner

Tanja Gönner (born 23 July 1969) is a German politician (CDU) and former state minister and former member of Bundestag. Since June 2022 Gönner is CEO of Federation of German Industries, BDI, the leading lobby organization of German industry.

Life and politics

Gönner was born 1969 in the West German town of Sigmaringen and studied law in order to become a lawyer.[1] From 2002 to 2004 Gönner was member of the Bundestag.[2]

Gönner was elected to the federal executive of the CDU at the beginning of the 2000s. She became state minister in 2004. Under Stefan Mappus she became Minister of the Environment in Baden-Württemberg. She defended the billion-euro project Stuttgart 21.[3] Then she worked for ten years as spokeswoman of the board of the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit.[4]

In June 2022, she became Managing Director of the Federation of German Industries.[4]
