The Other Side of Hope (Finnish title:Toivon tuolla puolen) is a Finnish comedy-drama film written, produced and directed by Aki Kaurismäki. The film was produced by Kaurismäki's Finnish company Sputnik. In December 2016, it was selected to play in competition at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival.[3]

Plot

A poker-playing restaurateur and former traveling salesman befriends a group of refugees newly arrived to Finland.

Release

In December 2016, it was announced The Other Side of Hope would play in competition at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. The film itself is slated for an early February release in Finland[4] and Curzon Artificial Eye acquired the British distribution rights, with plans to release the film in April 2017.[5]

Reception

The Other Side of Hope was highly acclaimed upon release. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 90% 'fresh' rating, based on ten reviews, with an average score of 9/10.[6] On Metacritic, based on nine reviews, it holds a score of 89/100 indicating 'Universal Acclaim'.[7]
