Thota is an Indian surname used mostly by Reddy, chowdary (Kamma (caste)) and kapu caste people. These are so powerful castes in Telugu speaking states. This surname has roots in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil nadu and Maharashtra. It is an erstwhile zamindari surname, used by the Doras and Deshmukhs of Telangana and Andhra.
