Location of Kežmarok District in the Prešov region

Toporec (Hungarian: Toporc, German: Topporz) is a village and municipality in Kežmarok District in the Prešov Region of north Slovakia.

History

In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1277. Between 1000 and 1920, it was a part of the Kingdom of Hungary. It is a medieval Hungarian village. In 1945 its German population was expelled. The population of Toporec is mostly Hungarian, including many high class Hungarian Gypsies. The village is filled with beautiful green grassland and large properties. It also offers a small variety of shops for your basic needs, with the closest town of Kezmarok about 10 km away.

Geography

The municipality lies at an altitude of 572 metres and covers an area of 28.122 km2 . It has a population of about 1690 people.
