The Orange Lantern Corps is a fictional organization published by DC Comics. They debuted in Green Lantern (vol. 4) #25 (December 2007), they were created by Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver.

Fictional group history[edit]

The Orange Lantern Corps is one of the seven corps that were spoken of in the prophecy for The Blackest Night. This corps has the power over the emotion of avarice or greed. It is unknown exactly who founded the corps, but their apparent leader is an alien by the name of Larfleeze.

Recent history[edit]

The Orange Lantern Corps are first mention when the prophecy of The Blackest Night is told to the green lanterns of Earth. They are not prominently mentioned again until issue #38, when a small group of Controllers arrive on the planet Okaara, in the Vega System. Easily overpowering the indigenous life-froms, the Controllers arrive at a cave with the symbol of the corps on the door. An alien, hidden from view, orders them to leave, while also referencing some promise made to it by the Guardians of the Universe. The entire corps is introduced in issue #39. There the Controllers find an underground dwelling with a table of rotten food. Despite the fact that the food is rotten one Controller comments that it has been eaten recently. Venturing further into the cavern they come upon an orange power battery. Once they pick it up however, they are beset by and killed by the Orange Lantern Corps. Once the Controllers are dead the alien comments that the Guardians have broken their treaty. In Space Sector 2828 Green Lantern Stel is pursuing the Sinestro Corps member of Sector 2825. Soon the chase takes them into the Vega star system, which is off limits to the Green Lantern Corps for some unknown reason, Deciding that capturing the Sinestro Corps member takes precedence over his orders to remain outside the Vega System, Stel follows him. There the Sinestro Corps member is eaten by an Orange Lantern Corps member and the Sinestro's yellow ring is taken by the Orange Lantern. The Orange Lantern is then ordered to "brand" Stel. Stel is returned to Oa missing his arms and legs and having the Orange Lantern symbol emblazoned on his chest, which the Guardians seem shocked to see. The alien from before is able to use Stel as a means to communicate with the Guardians. The Guardians refer to the alien as Larfleeze and accuse of breaching their treaty to never leave the Vega System. Larfleeze tells them that he had allowed their transgressions into Vega until now. Before he can name his demands though the Guardian Scar uses he powers to dispel Larfleeze claiming that the Guardians do not negotiate with terrorists.

Prominent members[edit]

  • Larfleeze: An alien who apparently entered into some sort of agreement with The Guardians of the Universe which caused the Guardians to declare the Vega Star System off limits. He seems to be the leader of the Orange Lantern Corps and is usually seen clutching is power battery very tightly.

Powers and abilities[edit]

Orange Lanterns appear to be covered in a deep orange aura at all times, rather than just being outlined. They also seem to consume the rings of other corps.
