Vadgaon or Vadgaon Maval (formerly spelled Wadgaon or Wargaum) is a census town in Pune district in the Indian state of Maharashtra.
Demographics [edit]
As of 2001[update] India census,[1] Vadgaon, Tal. Maval. Di. Pune had a population of 11,359. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Vadgaon has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 69%. In Vadgaon, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Battle in the First Anglo-Maratha War [edit]
In the First Anglo-Maratha War, Wadgaon (as the name was then spelled) was the site of a battle in which the Maratha Empire inflicted a defeat on the East India Company and of a treaty in which the British had to make considerable concessions. (See First Anglo-Maratha War#Battle of Wadgaon).
