Summary

Description
English: Historical drawing of the skeleton of the common water frog Pelophylax “esculentus” (LINNAEUS, 1758). Top left corner: skull in ventral view. Top center: pectoral girdle in ventral view. Top right: mandible. Also note that
  • the bone labelled “Astragalus” (a) is not entirely homologous to the astragalus in amniotes and today is usually referred to as tibiale.
  • the bone labelled “Calcaneum” (ca) is not entirely homologous to the calcaneum in amniotes and today is usually referred to as fibulare.
  • the bone labelled “Præcoracoid” (pco) is actually the clavicle.
  • the structure labelled “Rudiment of sixth toe” (VI) today is usually referred to as prehallux and that its nature as a rudiment is controversial.
Deutsch: Historische Zeichnung des Skelettes des Teichfrosches Pelophylax “esculentus” (LINNAEUS, 1758). Oben links: Schädel in Ventralansicht. Oben Mitte: Schultergürtel in Ventralansicht. Oben rechts: Unterkiefer.
