Samya Hassani (Arabic: ساميا حسني,[2] born 3 January 2000) is a Moroccan professional footballer who plays as a forward for Vrouwen Eredivisie club SC Telstar. Born in the Netherlands, she represents the Morocco women's national team.

Club career[edit]

VV Alkmaar[edit]

Hassani has played for Alkmaar in the Netherlands.[1] She made her league debut against Ajax on 25 August 2019.[3] Hassani scored her first league goal against Excelsior on 6 September 2019, scoring in the 85th minute.[4]

Telstar[edit]

After a year playing for Belgian Women's Super League club Gent, it was announced that Hassani will be playing for the revived Telstar team in the Dutch Eredivisie for the 2022/23 season.[5] She made her league debut against ADO Den Haag on 18 September 2022.[6] Hassani scored her first league goal against Ajax on 25 October 2022, scoring in the 67th minute.[7]

Fenerbahçe[edit]

Hassani joined Fenerbahçe from Telstar.[8] She made her league debut on 9 March 2024 against Fatih Van Spor.[9]

International career[edit]

Hassani was scouted to the Morocco national team by a scout messaging her on Instagram.[10]

Hassani made her senior debut for Morocco on 14 June 2021 in a 3–2 friendly home win over Mali.[2] She scored her first goal against Senegal on 30 November 2021.[11]

On 1 July 2022, it was announced that Hassani had been called up to the Morocco squad for 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations.[12]

Hassani was called up for the provisional Morocco squad for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.[13] However, she did not make the final group.[14]

Personal life[edit]

Hassani won the Best Sportswoman of the Year award at the Diversity Sport Awards on 22 February 2024.[15]
