Sydney Egere, (born 26 January 1996), known as Sydney Talker, is a Nigerian media personality, comedian and actor.[1] He is the founder and CEO of Neville Records,[2][3] and nominated for the 25 Under 25 Award organized by SME100 Africa.[4]

Early life and education[edit]

Born in Edo State, Nigeria and raised by a single mum,[2] Sydney Talker had his primary and secondary education in Benin. He then went on to acquire a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the University of Benin.[2]

Career[edit]

Sydney Talker's career started in 2016. He started off by creating and uploading comedy skits on his social media handles, especially Instagram. His comedy skit 'The Poor Power Supply' was what brought him to limelight in 2016.[2] He was nominated in the 2020 edition of the 25 Under 25 Awards organized by SME100 Africa.[4] Sydney has also starred in a Nollywood musical film "Loud" [5] He was dubbed as the Nigerian Mr Bean[6] and has been frequently referred to as The Towel Guy.[7]

In January 2022, Sydney Talker announced the launch of his record label, Neville Records in an Instagram post.[8][9] He also unveiled his first signing Khaid on the same day.[10]

Neville Records[edit]

On 20 January 2022, Sydney Talker launched Neville Records. Along with Sydney Talker himself, the label signed its first act that same year; its first was Khaid, who was signed the same day Sydney launched the label. He founded the label to debut him.[11][12] Khaid released his first major debut single, "With You" on January 28, 2022. Khaid's debut EP, DIVERSITY, followed thereafter in May of that year. Khaid released his second EP Emotions, in September the following year.[13]

Criticism[edit]

Sydney Talker has been criticized on social media for conniving with fellow skit maker, Carter Efe to claim ownership of Berri Tiga's song by trying to pay him off.[14][15]
