Does not this belong under Semiotics? In any case, I thought Umberto Eco coined the word, from Italian for 'seed', in direct parallel with Richard Dawkins' meme, as the smallest unit thereof. Furthermore, that Eco went on to discover, to distinguish a seme from background noise or a signal arising from nature, a seme must be able to lie. Pawyilee 02:56, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
