Cameroun?[edit]

I believe international agencies tend to use the French spelling for the modern nation-state. This would affect a whole slew of articles Chrismorey (talk) 06:36, 27 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Military section has broken formatting[edit]

I'm using this page for a bit of research at school, and it looks like the "Military" section has some botched formatting. I'm not very familiar with MediaWiki's formatting, and I haven't the time to fix this myself right now if I could. I'll check again later and see what I can do if noone else sees this. Governance of Cameroon[edit]

I was doing some work on creating new categories and am confused by the assortment of different names of categories for Cameroon as can be seen at Category:Decades in Cameroon. A lot of these category names were devised by the use of a template and there might be some misidentification. It would be great if someone could help me sort out the Kamerun‎, British Cameroons, French Cameroons and Cameroon categories so they accurately reflect the history of this country. Thanks for any help you can offer. Liz Read! Talk! 17:25, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: How would you feel about making the categories for divisions of the country (British/French/Southern and "Kamerun" [German]) subordinate to categories for the decades they represent? Discuss-Dubious (t/c) 01:43, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Cameroon. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

Religion[edit]

There has been some recent back-and-forth editing on the religious make-up of Cameroon. I am no sort of expert on the subject matter, but can I suggest that the people who have been making the changes discuss which sourcing is the more reliable here? It might be good to see whether there is some sort of census data published by the Cameroonian government, or some other authoritative primary source, to help evaluate the secondary sources (which both look like online news articles, which isn't really ideal). GirthSummit (blether) 15:03, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@GirthSummit There seems to be a deliberate attempt here by User:Familyleave to downplay the Christian majority in Cameroon and exaggerate Muslim and folk religion percentages by using isolated sources. He/she also did this on Religion in Cameroon here but this time didn't bother to change the source. Since both CIA and Pew agree with a Christian majority in excess of 60% in Cameroon, I suggest going with a 63% Christian, 22% Muslim and 14 traditional religion figure as provided by this latest source. Regards Epelerenon (talk) 15:54, 3 August 2020 (UTC)Epelerenon is a sock puppet of an indef blocked user.VR talk 12:24, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Epelerenon, thanks for checking those sources. Based on that, I agree that the material in both articles should be changed to reflect those figures - would you be happy to make the changes, and referenced to those sources? Thanks GirthSummit (blether) 15:58, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@GirthSummit Okay I will make the changes based on the CIA figure, which is the latest one and most reliable. Regards Epelerenon (talk) 16:02, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Eplelrenon I, as well as other Africans, are sick and tired of Westerners narrating who we are. We have our own sources and are more in-tune with the structure of our society. We do not need Western researchers who visit the our countries to tell us who we are. The CIA has been proven time and time again to not be 100 per cent reliable especially when it comes to the global south. Going by their latest figures, I can already spot incorrect information on the ethnic demography of Cameroon. The CIA is NOT preeminent particularly when it comes to Africa. This to say, the religious demographics in Cameroon is highly disputable and equivocal as many people might declare themselves to be Christians but are NOT practising Christians as they still adhere to traditional beliefs. It is the reason the Cameroon census declares nominal figures because in Cameroon, traditional beliefs are very much highly regarded in both rural and urban settlements. Just because the Cameroonian government is Christian, does not mean Christianity is wholesomely abided by the majority of Cameroonians. Whoever is editing the information for Cameroon needs to stop with his/her western caucasian agenda on religion in Cameroon. Traditional beliefs are highly practised in Cameroon and it is disrespectful to our culture to disregard this fact. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Familyleave (talkcontribs) 17:47, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Head of state[edit]

The section on politics and government says the prime minister is the official head of state however if you read the wiki page on the politics of Cameroon it says it is the president. Clearly one of these pages is wrong. Firestar47 (talk) 09:56, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Francis Nagannou Sports[edit]

Hello, friends I want to suggest to add some info about UFC heavyweight champion Francis Nagannou in culture and sports section. He's from West Camroon. And is famous, doing good social work for the poor childrens of West Cameroon. I am not from Camroon but I came on the article of Cameroon from Francis Nagannou's article. Because of him the image of this country change for me in a positive way. Huge Earth (talk) 07:01, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If there is a source which places him at such prominence within the coverage of Cameroon that would be helpful. The article link you are looking for it Francis Ngannou. CMD (talk) 10:19, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for section on science and technology[edit]

Hi, just a suggestion, many country articles have sections or subsections for 'science and technology', this could be a section on this article as well. The UNESCO Science Report may be a good place to start and can copied from directly using these instructions.

Thanks John Cummings (talk) 14:26, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation of Cameroon[edit]

The pronunciation is in American English. However, the IPA glosses over the distinction in American English between “a” before a nasal (m, n). Examples:

spat/spam hat/ham pat/pam sat/sam slat/slam rat/ram cat/cameroon

In American English, these pairs are different. The first is pronounced “æ”, the second “e” (IPA).

In fact, the “e” sound is used in the article’s own audio sample. Cf. “cash”, “cat”, “cap”—“æ” words. Oxenfording (talk) 06:03, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
