Marvin SuttonPopcorn Sutton – He seems much more widely recognized by his nickname, and now there's also a new namesake company and brand of whiskey. Note that there was previously an article at Popcorn Sutton, but it was a semi-duplicate and was redirected to Marvin Sutton four years ago. —BarrelProof (talk) 19:07, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per WP:COMMONNAME - I honestly had no clue his first name was Marvin, he's always referenced as Popcorn. I think some consideration is warranted towards splitting the namesake company and brand information into their own article, leaving a small blurb here. Maybe not yet, but if new brands / news result from the new master distiller I think it would be warranted. Ravensfire (talk) 19:35, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Jackyl song[edit]

An anonymous IP added a sentence to the article saying that "Jackyl wrote a tribute to Popcorn Sutton called 'Open for Business' on their Stayin Alive CD". According to the article about that CD, it was released in 1998. This makes me really doubt the truth of that sentence, because 1998 was before Sutton self-published his autobiography and home video or appeared in any films. Hardly anyone outside of rural North Carolina and Tennessee had probably ever heard of Sutton at that point in time, so I wonder whether that song really has anything to do with Sutton. —BarrelProof (talk) 02:36, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I found the lyrics of that song on the web. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with Sutton or moonshine at all. It does mention beer, but that's about as close as it gets to this topic. I found a couple of other Jackyl songs that have something to do with moonshine, but didn't notice any references to Sutton in them. —BarrelProof (talk) 21:29, 17 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
