Prorposal to rename from "thiophenols" to "thiophenol"[edit]

I propose to move this article to thiophenol. The new article would indicate that thiophenol is a compound but occassionally refers to a class of compounds. The article would resemble the naming convention used for phenol, aniline, benzoic acid, etc. etc. --Smokefoot 13:21, 18 August 2006 (UTC) I moved it and added lots of PhSH-specific content. Probably needs copy editing.--Smokefoot 04:12, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Prorposal to rename from "thiophenol" to "benzenethiol"[edit]

I propose the article to be renamed from "thiophenol" to "benzenethiol" (which is the preferred IUPAC name). IUPAC states that "thiophenol" name should not be used, probably because of possible confusion with thiophene alcohol. —Mykhal (talk) 23:19, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. People who use it, call this stuff thiophenol. People who dont use it, ..... BTW there are no or few thiophene alcohols, they would tautomerize. Thienylmethanol, yes, but pretty specialized stuff. --Smokefoot (talk) 13:06, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
