VSQP: very stupid question probably but I am trying to figure out how to post and just say thanks for the welcome message! Is this correct?

DYK
Hi and thanks for your many nominations at DYK. You may have noticed that a majority of your nominations have not been accepted. It would help us if you were to familiarize yourself with the rules, which you can find at WP:DYK#The DYK Rules. Not only that, but please credit the original article contributors in your nomination, like "Article by User:Jimbo Wales, nominated by ~~~~." Thanks again. howcheng {chat} 18:42, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
OK, I have verified the Sea Island hook. Next time, please leave your updates on the DYK nominations page, if I happen to not log in for a few days (or I get hit by a bus or something) then nobody else would double-check it after my initial assessment. Regards, howcheng {chat} 22:52, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Talk:Global warming
Hi! I removed the Wikiproject Environment template you put on the top of Talk:Global warming because the template is already on the page; it's just contained in the "this article is covered by multiple wikiprojects" box. - Enuja(talk) 22:19, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Re:Featured image
Congratulations! I'm not sure about how to make certain parts link; I know it can be done with the Imagemap extension, but I know it's pretty complicated. jj137(talk) 23:35, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Further on this: I read over the page and I think I have it figured out, if there was something you wanted to try. jj137(talk) 23:42, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
That's really strange. If it's exactly the same as the other one, I don't understand why it isn't working correctly... jj137(talk) 23:59, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
ImageMap
Wow. Using Show Preview, I tried to "redo" it, but for some reason I still can't get the links to work properly. I'll keep working on it. jj137(talk) 02:28, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Hmm... not yet... going to have to work at it some more... this could take a while to perfect. jj137(talk) 02:48, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Eh, you're right, we have plenty of time. I'm not going to give up until I get it right, though. :) jj137(talk) 02:51, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Donorsilo.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 16:14, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Article
Y Deleted it. Haven't had a chance to work on the archives yet; just got online for the first time today (although I think I have an idea of what to do). jj137(talk) 20:53, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm curious to know who the editor on the radio was (if you check out the list you could probably figure it out :)) jj137(talk) 21:11, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Gurch, maybe? Yes, I did know Rudget retired, it was for personal reasons. jj137(talk) 22:15, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Gurch? No, I don't think so, he's still actively editing. jj137(talk) 22:17, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
confused
hi mfc, i'm confused by recent messages. You have a template today for the DYK (see above) and a thx for the RFA support - (hope you found the bucket) Can you explain? Victuallers (talk) 21:23, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
re: I suggest merging the filmography and new sources to Charlotte Ander. The Charlotte Ander prose appears to be a more complete and polished translation from the German wiki. As for Charlotte Anderson, this appears to be the name of a missing notable professor and physician. Once the merge is done, we can make a stub. • Gene93k (talk) 21:14, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
ImageMaps
Victuallers told me about this tool which helps create imagemaps. Wow. Check out the changes I made to archives till 38 page (still a couple I have to fix, I think). jj137(talk) 03:05, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Boston Celtics FA Nom
Though this seems like it won't succeed, I could help you with the issues addressed to help bring the article to FA status. Just drop me a note on what to do and I will get started. STORMTRACKER94 Go Sox! 20:52, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
I'll get started later today or tomorrow. Also, it seems that the Mets getting Santana is good, because I wouldn't want to see all oftheseyoung prospects being traded. STORMTRACKER94 Go Sox! 21:02, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
AWB
Yes, you should be able to - when you compile the list, there should be an option in one of the tabs to change all of the pages to Talk: namespace. To make your TOC in the center, just use {{TOCcenter}}. jj137(talk) 21:09, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
The image (til 38) is fixed now. I'll work on adding the archive images by adding them in a scrollable (sic) box, if that sounds correct. jj137(talk) 21:19, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'll just put that in a box. Do you want me to go ahead and do that? jj137(talk) 21:22, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Argh. Worked around with it but couldn't get it to work right (still trying!). Have you ever considered linking any of your Oreo pictures to Oreo? jj137(talk) 21:38, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Aah, I'm completely stuck. If you suggest it at the help desk I'm sure someone will probably be able to solve it within minutes. jj137(talk) 21:49, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Boston Celtics assessments
Hey. Seems like you're assessing a slew of start-class articles as stubs. May I ask about your criteria, or the reason for this? Wizardman 21:26, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
For the new pages, nothing I know of. New Page Watcher may have something you can use.
I haven't been able to find anything for the Celtics other than the all-time roster. I guess we will just have to tag non-bios the "old-fashioned way". jj137(talk) 22:52, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
At Special:Newpages you could sort them for the last month or so, but you would have to keep track for longer. jj137(talk) 23:26, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Re:Bot
Actually, I am very experienced with Pywikipedia bot and AWB bot software (I used to run a bot all day everyday on another wiki). Actually, if you download and install the Pywikipedia bot software (if you want!), I can definitely help you with a bot. jj137(talk) 00:22, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
I use XP too; firstly, if you don't already have Python installed, you will need to download/install that (just takes a few minutes, no big deal). Once you do that, you can just download the software from here. Are you familiar with command line at all? That's what you use to run it. It's actually pretty simple, assuming the fact I was able to figure it out and know relatively nothing about command line. (Sorry if all of that was confusing.) jj137(talk) 00:32, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
It looks like you click on "Python 2.5.1 Windows installer" - jj137(talk) 00:37, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
You shouldn't have to open an RFBA yet - just make sure not to make any edits before opening one. Yes, the step-by-step is confusing; once it is done installing, read through it, and let me know if you can't figure something out. jj137(talk) 00:42, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Ah, OK. Just save it wherever you want, I guess; you don't really even need to do anything with any of the files, but the pywikipedia somehow needs it to work. jj137(talk) 00:44, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
No, I don't think so. jj137(talk) 00:46, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
If you have both things installed, I'm pretty sure that's where the directions come in. Try reading through them and see if you can figure out anything. Let me know if you're stuck/confused. jj137(talk) 00:50, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
OK, now I'm confused! :) jj137(talk) 01:02, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Your pick. WordPad, Notepad, etc., whatever you prefer. jj137(talk) 01:04, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Wow, that was fast! You did modify it to "Ohmpandyabot", right? (You may want to rename that, if you want) jj137(talk) 01:16, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
You can rename it or create a new account while logged in, whatever's easiest. Now, are you able to login using command line? jj137(talk) 01:20, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Here's how:
Open command line.
Type in chdir (whatever file name is where list of .py files is saved)
type in login.py
It should ask you for your password. Type in the bot password (also, make sure "Oreobot" is specified in the file)– it will be invisible, but it will be entering it.
If successful, it will tell you a random note about how your bot isn't registered or something like that.
Let me know if you get this far. jj137(talk) 01:26, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Where exactly does it say there is an error - in the command line, or in the file? jj137(talk) 01:46, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
OK, do you have "Oreobot" specified in user-config.py? Optionally, just post what the text in that file says and I can fix it :) jj137(talk) 01:51, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Remove the space between the u and the ' . If that doesn't work, I have another suggestion... jj137(talk) 02:03, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Just follow the steps above. jj137(talk) 02:06, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Say for example the list of files (user-config.py, login.py, move.py, etc. etc.) is saved in "C:\Wikipedia\pywikipediabot" or something like that. You would type in "chdir C:\Wikipedia\pywikipediabot". Then you would use login.py . jj137(talk) 02:09, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
You did type in the location of the file, and not the example, right? jj137(talk) 02:15, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
LOL, just kidding. So, when you open command line, what are you typing? jj137(talk) 02:18, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Don't forget the chdir in front of it. jj137(talk) 02:21, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
The second one - there should be a space in between. jj137(talk) 02:23, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Is it still telling you invalid syntax? If you're typing it in correctly, and that is where all of the pywikipedia bot files are, then it should work properly. jj137(talk) 02:27, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
If you open a fresh command line, copy and paste the below code into the command line and press enter, and it surely is telling you that, then I'm totally out of ideas.
chdir C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop1\Desktop\Python\pywikipedia
Wait - try going to that file name through My Documents. Does it come up with all of the pywikipedia bot files? jj137(talk) 02:35, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Not sure what service pack 2 is, but yeah, that might be the problem. jj137(talk) 02:48, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Just looked up what it was, and it looks like I already have it. Wow, I didn't even know. jj137(talk) 02:51, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
That's too bad. Well, you said your laptop has it, so maybe that will fix the problem. jj137(talk) 02:53, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Now I know!! (I think) You typed in an extra "Desktop". Type in: chdir C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop1\My Documents\Pywikipedia
Aah, so close. jj137(talk) 03:04, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
User talk help request
Well, I tried. I think that's what you were aiming for, and if not, hopefully that's close enough for you to tweak the code around a bit. The changes I made were mainly in your /Top template, and basically consisted of slapping the two archive things and the TOC in an invisible table. Unfortunately, I'm not quite sure how to make your second archive pile as large as the other one (or vice versa), mainly because I have no idea how you did all that in the first place. I hope that works for you - if not, it should be easy enough for you to undo - one edit each here and on the template. Happy Editing! Hersfold(t/a/c) 01:18, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I've got the scroll bar in. Had to fight the spam blacklist to do it, though, which was kinda weird. Anyway, I'm not sure what you mean by "wide" - I guess things are running off on your screen? I'm using a 1440x900 screen resolution and it looks fine to me, but I'm not quite sure how to get things smaller without messing with those imagemaps of yours. Which, again, I have no idea how to do. Sorry. Looks pretty good on my screen, though. :-) Hersfold(t/a/c) 05:20, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Albertis Castle, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.
If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Ian Spackman (talk) 11:19, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Hello, Instinct. Concerning your contribution, Gianfranco Contini, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material without the permission of the author. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.novara.com/letteratura/bibliografia900/contini.htm. As a copyright violation, Gianfranco Contini appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Gianfranco Contini has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message. For text material, please consider rewriting the content and citing the source, provided that it is credible.
If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:
If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Gianfranco Contini with a link to where we can find that note.

I realize that you weren’t aware of the problem when you created the article by using a google translation of its equivalent on the French Wikipedia, but following that article back to its source on the Italian Wikipedia I discovered that the text there largely consisted of chunks lifted from the Novara on line letteratura.
By the way, when you do import articles from the other Wikipedias there are a couple of things to bear in mind. Firstly, their texts, like ours, are copyrighted but licensed under the GFDL. That means that their authorship must be acknowledged. When we forget to do that—and I am sure we all do sometimes—we are violating their copyright. Secondly, machine translations are nearly always hopeless for out purposes. Certainly if you have sufficient knowledge of the source language, you can use the machine-generated text as the basis of a translation or summary of the original article—but always it will need careful copy-editing and checking.
Just a note to let you know I've expanded the article as requested. Thanks! --Phyesalis (talk) 19:43, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, if you did, maybe you would have translated it and created the article with the translated text. I obviously don't think you would do that, but someone else might suspect it. jj137(talk) 21:58, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Howdy, I noticed that you recently promoted your own nomination of 2008 submarine cable disruption to the next update page. Ideally, you would like to have an independent editor promote nominations that you are involved in for the sake of fairness and transparency. The article may have some "In the News" type concerns as well. I'm going to remove the promotion for now but the article is listed on the candidate page and so it will have a fair opportunity to be promoted. AgneCheese/Wine 01:48, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
No problem. It happens. :) I appreciate your efforts in finding new articles for DYK and support for the project. As for the nom, it is really new (listed on the 4th) and so myself or another editor will certainly review it in time. However, the priority is to review older noms sooner before they expired. But at first glance, the article does look really interesting. AgneCheese/Wine 01:53, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
