Comics Notability

Hi. Is what patsw is saying here true? I thought notability only required coverage in reliable sources, but patsw is saying that the book in question has to have won awards. That seems a bit restrictive. I mean, what about books that were nominated but didn't win? Or books published before certain awards were founded? Is this true? Is there a Comic Project notability guideline? I couldn't find one on the Project pages I looked through. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 12:27, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Last I was aware "award winning" isn't a bench mark per se. As Tenebrae points out, if an work has won a notable award, that does help in pointing at the work as notable. It cannot be the only thing though. Reliable sources and/or scholarly evaluations would also be needed.

Regarding this edit, it seems Template:Mighty Avengers, Template:New Avengers and Template:Secret Avengers have similar member lists. Should these templates be trimmed down as well?--TriiipleThreat (talk) 14:52, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Yes.

The file name was one reason (I did not know they could be moved), but I did some work cleaning-up the image (reducing the noise, and adjusting the sharpness and contrast levels). Sorry if this caused you any inconvenience. Feel free to upload my version over the original, delete the new one and move the file to its new name, if you wish.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 19:53, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Fair enough. I'll move the file to the new name and you can re-load your version. OK?
- J Greb (talk) 19:55, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Also, I.ve restored the larger version for you to run your clean-up on. Just re-load it at the 250px across size.
- J Greb (talk) 19:56, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Sounds good, again sorry for the inconvenience.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 19:59, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Non-free use of File:Seventh Doctor.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Seventh Doctor.jpg. However, there is a concern that the use of the image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. Details of this problem, and which specific criteria that the image may not meet, can be obtained by going to the image description page. If you feel that this image does meet those criteria, please place a note on the image description or talk page explaining why. Do not remove the {{di-fails NFCC}} tag itself.

An administrator will review this file within a few days, and having considered the opinions placed on the image page, may delete it in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion or remove the tag entirely. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Moe ε 07:18, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

See WP:HLIST; horizontal lists are the MOS-preferred method, and the {dot} templates and such are deprecated (at Template:Navbox#See also). There's been a lot of talk about this on Template talk:Navbox. Please flip it back. Thanks, Alarbus (talk) 03:02, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

I'll be restoring this, soon. Alarbus (talk) 13:38, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Can you explain to me why Ursa's appearance in the Ruby-Spears Superman cartoon shouldn't be mentionned? --Hiryu84 (talk) 09:36, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

This change was reverted again. Appears to be a user and an IP address doing the same changes. 129.33.19.254 (talk) 16:18, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

And... reverted again. 129.33.19.254 (talk) 15:21, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

This is a bit extreme isn't it? Locking an entire page just to get the attention of a single editor? Are there not other avenues to take involving the single editor before locking it so nobody at all can edit? a_man_alone (talk) 13:25, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Sadly it's the only way to try and get the disruptive editor to engage on the talk page - they would be able to edit through semi just as you could. That said, dropped the duration though I think it might muddie things abit.
- J Greb (talk) 16:48, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
I would have thought blocking them for disruptive editing would have been just as effective? You've already given them fair warning. a_man_alone (talk) 17:13, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Redirect categorization

Hi Greb,

I apologize for removing the Category:The Batman (TV series) characters tags from the corresponding redirects. I was operating under a false understanding of the guidelines pertaining to the categorization of redirects. You may want to read this section of the pertinent guidelines. According to these guidelines, "Redirects to sections of minor character lists should generally only be categorized within that fictional setting, and not in the wider fictional categories." For example, the Ethan Bennett redirect should be in Category:The Batman (TV series) characters, but not in Category:Fictional police detectives. Just something to keep in mind.

Neelix (talk) 03:05, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

In broad or redundant strokes, I agree - hence the note on a lot of the redirects that the categories in common with the source character, which generally have articles, weren't added. I'd also agree if the list is a collection of flat bullets - there wouldn't be anything there to support categorization.
IMO the general limitation stretches once you start dealing with list article provide rough character sketches, especially when dealing with regular characters from a show.
