Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Pending changes reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Help Me! - About reviewing AFDs etc.

I want to get experience from AFD, XFD, CSD or ANY administrative tasks. What do I do?

Well, no administrative tasks are required for participating at any of the first ones so you can find any AfD areas you can help by Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Flat or the daily log here. Let me know if you need any more help, SwisterTwister talk 07:52, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
Excellent so far, but simply a quick hint, also consider scanning older ones such as November 27 and November 28 (this helps any older ones that are going to be either relisted or closed). Cheers, SwisterTwister talk 08:12, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

@SwisterTwister: What is the deletion sorting thing all about? Vincent60030 (talk) 15:03, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

It is for sorting the AfDs for more specific subject areas (such as there's a Malaysia category for Malaysia AfDs and then also an "Asia" category for a wider area) and you'll notice there's a large selection. Cheers, SwisterTwister talk 17:22, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
@SwisterTwister: Oh, that's cool, thanks! :) Vincent60030 (talk) 06:55, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

I need to know how to read the statistics of views per day when the statistics display is down. I read the instructions but I still don't know how. VKZYLUFan (talk) (Mind the Gap!) 15:34, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

You mean this data? The instructions seem exhaustive to me, what part is unclear to you? Huon (talk) 16:44, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
@Huon: Yup I meant that one. I'm unclear about the number of views for a specific day. VKZYLUFan (talk) (Mind the Gap!) 04:31, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
Take for example these files. As the description said, it's hourly data, so for a full day you would need 24 files, say pagecounts-20160102-000000.gz to pagecounts-20160102-230000.gz (or maybe shifted by one hour, not sure about that). Within each file you'd have to search for the entries for the article you are interested again; you'll find something like en Main_Page 242332 4737756101. The first number is the number of times the page has been requested within that hour. Add the numbers for that article from all 24 files to get the total number of requests for the day. Huon (talk) 09:22, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
@Huon: I somehow can't open the .gz file. What should I do? VKZYLUFan (talk) (Mind the Gap!) 12:28, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
.gz files are compressed; you need to use gzip or compatible decompression utility. BTW I'm puzzled why you're using the lead section for asking questions. --Redrose64 (talk) 13:06, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
Oh my, so complicated. Anyways, Redrose64, this is done so that helpers can easily navigate to the question. (they can notice it easily) ;) VKZYLUFan (talk) (Mind the Gap!) 13:35, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted

Hello Vincent60030. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • URGENT: Please consider helping get the huge backlog down to a manageable number of pages as soon as possible.
  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. Malinaccier (talk) 19:07, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Vincent60030, it really isn't necessary to edit this page: the DYKHousekeepingBot runs every 30 minutes, and it accurately reflects the contents of the Nominations and Approved pages at the time. Wugbot runs every two hours on the odd hour, and is supposed to move approved nominations to the Approved page and deleted closed nominations from both pages. It also removes date headers from the Approved page (but not from the Nominations page). According to the Wugbot error log, there was a conflict today at 13:01 that prevented it from running, though no other recent error messages.

You can certainly do things manually if you really wish to, but be careful to avoid conflicts with the bots. Thanks for all the great work you've been doing at DYK! BlueMoonset (talk) 15:29, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

@BlueMoonset: Oh, and I was confused whether WugBot was working or not. Thanks =D VincentLUFan (talk) (Kenton!) 15:30, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

Alternate images please

Hi, one more thing about DYK promotions: We try to alternate the image hook, not running bios or nature hooks or buildings or whatever in succession. The categories that I rotate are: person, nature, building, artwork, other (e.g. chart or coin), etc. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 17:59, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

@Yoninah: I’m a bit confused here. So does it have to follow person nature building artwork other or just dont put image hooks of the same category successively? VincentLUFan (talk) (Kenton!) 18:14, 25 December 2018 (UTC)
Sorry for confusing you. It doesn't have to follow any order. But you should look for enough diversity to avoid what we have now: Main Page=person, Queue 3=person, Queue 4=building, Queue 5=person, Queue 6=person, Queue 7=car, Queue 8=person. I would move the person images in Queue 6 and 8 to later sets. You could go ahead and put Gerda's concert image in Prep 3 for January 1 if you'd like. Yoninah (talk) 18:48, 25 December 2018 (UTC)
@Yoninah: Sure! Hopefully I’ll sort that out tmrw. Goodnight :) VincentLUFan (talk) (Kenton!) 19:28, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

Prep 1

Hi, thanks for swapping the image. BTW a picture hook has to say ''(pictured)'' somewhere in the hook. I'd also like to alert you to be extra careful about promoting these scientific hooks submitted by student editors. Please check the referencing carefully and if you have any questions, ping the nominator. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 12:25, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

Ah icic noted. Tq very much VincentLUFan (talk) (Kenton!) 13:14, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the thanks for the hidden notes! It's important to place them because once the set moves into the queue, administrators at WP:ERRORS often fiddle with the hooks. This alerts them to hooks that must run on a certain day. Yoninah (talk) 13:38, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
No problem. More like I should thank you, which I’ll put it up soon :) I’ve totally forgotten about hidden notes. VincentLUFan (talk) (Kenton!) 13:41, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
OK, one more thing. In addition to mixing up the images, be sure the same subject isn't repeated twice in the set. You put 2 geology hooks in this set. Yoninah (talk) 21:20, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
...And, I should add, 2 hooks by the same author or promoter. The only time we allow 2 hooks by the same editor is when it's a special occasion, like Christmas or the Super Bowl. Yoninah (talk) 21:22, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
Wow that’s a lot of things to remember. Will do. Thanks :) VincentLUFan (talk) (Kenton!) 06:20, 27 December 2018 (UTC)
DYK is notorious for all its rules. Have you read WP:DYKSG? That also figures in. People have proposed more concise rules, but there is rarely consensus for change.
BTW, whenever you put a tick on a nomination page, such as a question mark or even an "X" rejection mark, you should place a notice on the nominator's talk page. We have a lot of new nominators and one-semester students lately, and they're not necessarily signed up to see pings. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 12:25, 27 December 2018 (UTC)
