Meeting Information[edit]

Our next meeting is today, September 20, at 6:00 P.M. in Room 344 of the 18th Avenue Library (same time and place as last week). Per usual, food will be provided. We recommend bringing a laptop computer to this meeting if possible.

Meeting Topic[edit]

Topics about which a Wikipedia article exists or could be written are extremely diverse. However, the Wikipedia editing community is not representative of the general population in terms of demographics or areas of interest. The community generally consists of fewer women than men and of more younger people than older people, for example. As a result, some types of topics are covered more extensively than other topics that are equally notable among the general public.

The good news is that you can help! Wikipedia Connection hosts edit-a-thons that are specifically designed to improve coverage of topics Wikipedia editors oftentimes overlook. The Wikipedia community is also working to make editing more accessible to users with less technical backgrounds. For instance, the visual editor now allows "What You See is What You Get" editing on many Wikipedia articles, avoiding the need to edit in wiki markup in most cases.
