Gregory Scott Keough is an American entrepreneur, business executive, and investor, known for his work in digital technology, financial services, and blockchain innovation.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Gregory Keough was born and raised in the United States within a family of Irish immigrants. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University in 1988. Later, in 2014, Keough completed an Executive Education program specializing in Strategic Leadership in Inclusive Finance at the Harvard Business School.

Career[edit]

Keough started his career as a Covert Operations Officer with the CIA's Directorate of Operations from 1988 to 1994. During this time, he was honored with the Intelligence Star by the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, Robert Gates, for his bravery during a rescue operation.[1][2]

Transitioning into technology entrepreneurship, Keough held CEO positions in several startups, gaining attention from publications such as Forbes, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg.[3][1]

He founded and led PCK International from 1994 to 1996, followed by his tenure as CEO and Chairman of Virtual Loan Corp from 1996 to 1997, where he developed the first online mortgage marketplaces in the US.

As CEO of Zona Financiera from 1997 to 2000, Keough oversaw its acquisition by Citigroup for $100 million.[4] Additionally, he founded AperServ Technologies, subsequently acquired by Response Networks for $15 million.[5][6]

From 2002 to 2008, Keough served as CEO of DigiLinea, focusing on Voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure and services in the US Hispanic and Latin American markets.

He led RegaloCard, a mobile payments company, from 2008 to 2012,[7][8] and later helmed the MasterCard & Telefonica JV for Global Mobile Payments from 2012 to 2015.[9][10]

In 2015, Keough co-founded Finova Financial, a fintech company raising over $150M.[11][12][9][13][14][15][16][17] In 2017, Finova received the "Lending Innovation Firm of the Year" award[18] and was recognized as one of KPMG's World’s 100 Leading Financial Technology Innovators.[19]

In 2018, he established the Institute for Blockchain Innovation, serving as its Chairman.[20]

In 2019, Keough was a partner in Blockchain Credit Partners, operating as DeFi Money Market (DMM), resulted in the platform's growth to over $1 billion.[2][21][22] However, the venture faced scrutiny from the SEC,[23] leading to the voluntary cessation of operations, return of investors' capital with a 6.5% interest, and payment of a $13 million fine to resolve inquiries regarding the sale of unregistered securities.[24][25][26]

Keough was featured in Shannon Henry's book "The Dinner Club: How the Masters of the Internet Universe Rode the Rise and Fall of the Greatest Boom in History".[27]
