The Swiss Super League was contested by 14 teams in the 1970–71 season. FC Basel and Grasshopper Club Zürich finished the season level on points and so contested a play-off on 8 June 1971 to decide the title winners. Grasshopper won the play-off 4–3 after extra time.[1]
