This category is for terminal lakes that form in geographic sinks of endorheic basins and which may be a persistent lake, an intermittent lake (seasonal), a playa lake (temporarily covered with water), or an ephemeral lake (brief). Nearly all endorheic lakes are salt lakes (saline lakes), as rarely does penetration (water sinking underground) prevent an increase in salinity yet allow accumulation of water.
