NMD category[edit]

@John Maynard Friedman: the Non-metropolitan district says that UAs are non-metropolitan districts but it doesn't list them because there's a separate article at Unitary authorities of England, furthermore Category:Unitary authority districts of England is a sub category of Category:Non-metropolitan districts. Maybe however the category should be renamed to Category:Local government districts of Buckinghamshire? Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:22, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Crouch, Swale:, since most (all?) UAs are substantially urban albeit with a significant rural area, it does seem odd to categorise them as "non-metropolitan'. I realise, of course, that that is WP:OR. Is there a statutory definition?
RE your idea of LG districts of Bucks, two problems (a) articles about parishes in BoMK get nobbled regularly by people who insist that it is not in Bucks any more (which is why they all now have to have the pedantic prefix 'ceremonial'); (b) there just two LG districts Bucks CC and BoMK (because the district councils below Bucks CC like Aylesbury Vale are not at the same level in the pecking order), so is it a trivial category?. Not (c) but have you in mind to do the same at other counties, Hampshire being an obvious example. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 17:40, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
"Non-metropolitan district" appears to be a legal term.[citation needed]
All the other ones like Aylesbury Vale and Wycombe etc are districts, Bucks CC is a (county) council area, not district which excludes MK although that's changing next year so there will only be Buckinghamshire UA and MK UA. Yes with other counties like Hampshire I intend to do the same (and I've already added the likes of Peterborough to the Cambridgeshire NMD category). However I don't think people will have a problem with the rename of Category:Local government districts of Buckinghamshire so should I give that a go? Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:57, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No problem for me with the new category, my (c) was only to point out that you will have a lot of counties to work through. Where is NMD defined in law? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 19:02, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Non-metropolitan district. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:11, 22 November 2019 (UTC) [failed verification][reply]
The text there says Non-metropolitan districts are subdivisions of English non-metropolitan counties which have a two-tier structure of local government.[1] BoMK is UA, not a district of a NMA (specifically, Bucks). --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 23:07, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
