Category should not be added to executed spies[edit]
Dying in the Holocaust is not the same thing as being executed for being a spy. @AHI-3000: please discuss instead of adding the category back. Mason (talk) 03:55, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This category says "died" not killed. There's no assumption that they were killed for being spies. Mason (talk) 13:03, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've put back the parent category: Category:Spies by cause of death. Both executed and assassinated assume the death is intentional, while the category "died" makes no such assumption. Mason (talk) 13:11, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am going to remove the other occupations from assassinated and executed. Please don't add them back, without discussion. Mason (talk) 13:31, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison: Died/killed, does it really come down to a semantic thing for you? "Spies who died in the Holocaust" implies that them being spies was important to why they died in the Holocaust, which wasn't an event in which people were passively dying, they were being targeted for murder by the Nazis. "Executed spies" fits because throwing spies into a death camp was one way that the Nazis punished people for espionage against them. AHI-3000 (talk) 18:34, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. It comes down to semantics. If you want it to be limited to people killed for their profession, then nominate the category for a rename. At present, this category can include people who were spies and not executed for espionage. Mason (talk) 19:26, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison: I made a new category. Now you can stop bugging me about it. AHI-3000 (talk) 20:04, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's a solution. Please include a link to the category, once you make it. Mason (talk) 20:11, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
