Citizen is a rock band from Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio.[1]

History

The band formed in the year 2009 while still in high school. In May 2011, the band made an appearance at Bled Fest.[2] In early 2012, the band signed to Run For Cover Records.[3][4] The band released their first full-length album in 2013 titled Youth. The album was recorded in Studio 4 with producer Will Yip (Title Fight, Circa Survive, Braid). In June 2014, the band announced they would be going on a fall tour in support of Youth, starting early September in Toronto, Canada, and ending mid-October in Cleveland, Ohio. The tour was supported by the bands You Blew It!, Hostage Calm, Praise, and True Love.[5][6] In late July 2014, the band released a single titled Silo on Run for Cover Records.[7] On April 26, Citizen announced plans to release their second full-length album, Everybody Is Going to Heaven, on June 23, 2015 via Run For Cover.[8] The album was made available for streaming via Run for Cover's Bandcamp page on June 9, 2015.[9] The album charted at number 2 on the Billboard Vinyl Albums chart.[10]

On the 2nd May 2016 the band made the song 'Nail In Your Hand' available for free download from their website [11]

In early 2017, the band posted on their official Instagram site that they had begun to start the recording process of a new, upcoming album.

Style

AllMusic biographer Jason Lymangrover called the band's sound a merge of "bombastic emo pop, post-hardcore, and thick, chunky indie rock".[12] The band has been described as indie rock.[13] Youth has been described as emo,[13][14][15][16] grunge,[14] indie rock,[15] pop punk,[16] post-hardcore,[13] and punk rock.[15] Everybody Is Going to Heaven has been described as alternative rock,[17] emo,[18] grunge[17] and shoegaze.[16][18]
