Cléverson Gabriel Córdova (born 9 August 1985), commonly known as Cléo, is a Brazilian football striker who plays for Guangzhou Evergrande.

He also holds Serbian citizenship.

Born in Guarapuava, Brasil, Cléo begin playing at youth level with Comercial (PR), Cléo was spoted by C.D. Olivais e Moscavide who brouht him to Portugal in 2004. After one season playing in Portuguese lower leagues, he returned to Brazil and signed with Atlético Paranaense playing with them in the 2005 and 2005 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A although he also had minor loan spells with Ferroviária and Figueirense during 2005. In 2006 he moved back to Olivais e Moscavide playing two seasons with them, one of which in the 2006–07 Liga de Honra. In summer 2008 he called the attention of Red Star Belgrade that brought him on loan that season. Cléo became an influential player, and after impressing that season, city rivals Partizan snatched him and signed him during the summer of 2009.[1]

[edit] 2009–10 season

On 19 June 2009, Cléo signed a four-year contract for FK Partizan and thus became the first player after more than 20 years who moved from Red Star to Partizan (last was Goran Milojević in 1988).[2] Cléo scored in his debut for Partizan, on 14 July, against Welsh champions Rhyl for the overall victory of his team by 4–0. Seven days later, in the 2nd leg, Cléo scored a hat-trick of which was particularly nice was the first goal achieved with an bicycle kick.[3] On 28 November, Cléo scored a great goal against his former club to help Partizan 2–1 win over Crvena zvezda. Cléo played great in the second part of the 2009–10 Serbian SuperLiga, scoring nine goals, and thus helped Partizan to reach their third consecutive title.

[edit] 2010–11 season

Cléo opened the season by reaching the third goal in his team's victory 3–1 over FC Pyunik in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the 2010–11 UEFA Champions League.[4] One week later, second meeting in Yerevan, Cléo scored a fantastic goal from the edge of the penalty area in the fifth minute of injury time in the first half and also led his team to the next round with a total score of 4–1 on aggregate.[5] In the first match of the third qualifying round, Cléo scored in the 90th minute for his team's 3–0 win against Finland's HJK.[6] His fantastic form, Cléo completed by achieving both goals in the second leg.[7] He also scored a goal in the first round of the 2010–11 Serbian SuperLiga against FK Inđija at home, thus continued his series of goals. On 18 August, in the play-off round first leg against Anderlecht, a game which ended 2–2, he scored his 7th goal in 6 matches.[8] Six days later, on 24 August, Cléo scored twice against Anderlecht in the return tie, bringing his tally to 9 goals in 7 matches in the season. He was also accurate in the penalty shootout, and so helped Partizan to reach the Champions League for the first time in 7 years.[9] On 4 September, a day when he filed a request for Serbian citizenship, Cléo scored his 10th goal in the season with an overhead bicycle kick in the match against FK Hajduk Kula.[10] On 28 September, in the second round of the Champions League Group H, Cléo completed one of two penalties in a 3–1 defeat versus Arsenal.[11] On 8 December 2010, again in a match against Arsenal, Cléo scored an equaliser at Emirates Stadium, however Partizan lost the game 3–1.[12]

[edit] Guangzhou Evergrande

On 12 February 2011, Cléo completed his move to Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande, signing a four-year deal.[13] At the time, this move set a new record of Chinese football with €3.2 million transfer fee.[14] He made his league debut for Guangzhou against Dalian Shide on 2 April and scored the winning goal in the match. Recent reports from "ChinaDaily" have stated that "The club has decided to give up Cleo, who had a lingering injury, because he counted as one of the team's five foreign players." This has yet to be confirmed by Guangzhou Evergrande.

Cléo never played any international game for his home country Brazil, and in August 2010, he said that he would like to play for the Serbian national team and is yet up to Serbian coach to give him a call.[15] On 4 September, Cléo applied for Serbian citizenship after meeting with Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dačić.[16] On 23 September, Cléo became a citizen of Serbia.[17]
