Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (India) is a non-denominational, non-government development organization. Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (India) - AKRSP(I) is a programme of the Aga Khan Development Network which works in over 30 countries around the world.[1] AKRSP-India currently working in four states of India, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra.[2]

Areas of Work[edit]

AKRSP(I) has pioneered various participatory development approaches in the country and has won various national and international accolades for this.[3] The backbone of AKRSP(I)'s work is the empowerment of rural communities, particularly in underprivileged communities and for women - through collectivization as well as promotion of individual enterprises.[4][5][6]

Flagship Programs[edit]

Yuva Junction is an Aga Khan Rural Support Programme initiative that gives youth in remote areas of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar the opportunity to explore their dreams through proper training and access to alternate sources of livelihood through its skill and enterprise development programs.[18][19]

  • Padma Shri to Hirbaiben Ibrahimbhai Lobi (Community Leader) - (2023). Awarded By : Hon'ble President of India For her work for the Siddi samaj and empowerment of women in Saurashtra region[20]
  • Best Water Users Association to Sanjeevani Sahakari Piyat Mandali Ltd. Awarded By : Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India for their work in Participatory Irrigation Management[21]
  • Nari Shakti Puraskar to Ushaben Dineshbhai Vasava (Community Leader) Awarded By : Hon'ble President of India. For outstanding contribution in organic farming and assisting and educating the women farmers at ground level.[22]
  • Second prize in the Best NGO for Water Conservation category at 2nd National Water Awards ceremony organized Awarded By : Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt of India.[23]
  • FICCI Water Award Awarded By : FICCI First prize in Water Initiative by NGO in the eighth edition of FICCI water awards[24]
  • The National Entrepreneurship Award Awarded By : Government of India. Promoters Of Rural Producer Enterprises[25]
