Ellen Windemuth is a documentary filmmaker, entrepreneur and advocate for the use of storytelling to raise awareness about humanitarian and environmental issues. She was the Founder and CEO of the nonfiction company Off the Fence for 27 years, and thereafter became Founder and CEO of the Global Digital Network Waterbear.

She has three grown children, two dogs, four cats and is married to artist Erik Meijer. They live in Maine, USA.

Professional Life (Career)[edit]

Ellen now is the Founder and Supervisory Board Chair of The Waterbear Network, an interactive video-on-demand platform dedicated to storytelling around the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's). Waterbear has already partnered with 140 NGO's and a number of high quality brands, and is available in 194 countries.

Before founding Waterbear, Ellen was the owner and CEO of Off the Fence, a global nonfiction production and distribution company based in Amsterdam. Under her leadership, Off the Fence acquired, created and produced over 6,000 hours of content, including their latest feature documentary My Octopus Teacher, a Netflix Original.

Ellen is an experienced entrepreneur, executive producer, effects creator and distributor and has produced over 500 hours to date. She is Chair Emeritus of the Jackson Hole Film Festival Board and a strong advocate of conservation, land regeneration, and biodiversity. She runs her own NGO dedicated to reducing air pollution. His experience in factual programming and feature documentaries is extensive in both production and distribution.

Windemuth is a passionate advocate for the environment. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and events, and she has been featured in a number of media outlets, including The New York Times, The Guardian, and The BBC.

In addition to her work with The WaterBear Network, Windemuth is also a board member of a number of environmental organizations. She is a recipient of a number of awards, including the Christopher Parsons Outstanding Achievement Award and the Global Goals Impact Award.
