Description1946 DeSoto SP15 Diplomat Special Deluxe Coupe (12650219283).jpg
As with many cars of the time, the post war DeSotos changed little from 1945-49.
Like the D25 Dodge Kingsway, the SP15 Desoto Diplomat was pretty much a P15 Plymouth with Desoto or Dodge grille and badges, built in the US and Canada, they were mainly exported. The most obvious difference between the Diplomat and the real Desoto, the D11, was the vertical bars in the grille run into a chrome bar at the top on the Diplomat whereas the D11 had no chrome bar at the top.
Also Chrysler Dodge Distributors (Australia) Pty Ltd., imported the chassis with engine, etc. and had the bodies built by T.J. Richards Pty. Ltd., Adelaide. These cars, like this one, had a more ballooned roof and more rounded side windows.
They were available in Deluxe or Special Deluxe. 2 door Coupe or 4 door Sedan
