Cyan. The HQ Holden was built from July 1971-Oct 1974. The HQ was the most significant redesign yet. a completely new body and chassis, coil suspension and engines cubic capacity enlarged. Available in Sedan, 2 door Coupe (Monaro), Wagon, Utility and Panel Van. The base model was the Belmont, mid spec was the Kingswood, and top was the Premier. Performance cars were SS, Monaro GTS and GTS350 With the HQ series, the Brougham was dropped and the new long wheelbase Statesman introduced and a luxury 2 door Monaro was available, the LS, it got the Premier front and interior.

The new Monaro coupe design had a much larger rear window and a squarer rear quarter window. The base model came standard with the 118hp 173 cu in 6 cyl (V8 option), the luxury LS standard with 135hp 202 (V8 option), the GTS came with either the 185hp 253 or 240hp 308 the V8 and the GTS350, the imported 275hp Chev 350. Both GTSs got full instrumentation and sports steering wheel, bucket seats, sports wheels, side guard vents and GTS grille. When the 4 door Monaro was introduced in 1973, all Monaros got the bonnet and boot paint outs so not be mistaken for the humble Kingswood sedan
