Summary
DescriptionGhost crater, Rimae Secchi, Rima Messier (LRO).png |
English: Unnamed ghost crater approximately 85 km in diameter in northwestern Mare Fecunditatis on the Moon (center of the crater is on 0.1°N, 44.9°E). Rilles in upper left are Rimae Secchi; they are grabens which emerged in lava plains along the rim of this crater and later hosted volcanic activity. Rille in the bottom left is Rima Messier; the rille above is unnamed. A small (12 km in diameter) ghost crater is seen below the center. Numerous furrows in the right are traces of ejecta from crater Taruntius, located behind upper edge of the image. Photo by Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, made with Wide Angle Camera on 4 April 2018 from altitude 101 km. Sun elevation is 3.9°. Width of the region is approximately 112 km, north is approximately up (for making it up, rotate the image 3.7° ccw). |
