Diese Tat war es, die dem Basileios letztlich in den Genuß der Kaiserwürde emporbrachte. Michael hatte keine Nachkommenschaft und war unfähig, die Regierungsgeschäfte auszuüben. So ehrte er den Basileios mit der Würde des Magistros, adoptierte ihn; kurz darauf zog er zur Großen Kirche, um ihm das Diadem aufs Haupt zu setzen. ..."
