This chart is based on the table in,
- Anton A. Huurdeman, The worldwide history of telecommunications, p.144, Wiley-IEEE, 2003 ISBN 0471205052.
A number of errors have been corrected. Huurdeman has "P" as . . . . in American Morse (which should be . . . . .) and "Z" as . - - .. in Gerke's code (which should be . — — .., Gerke did not use short dashes). These corrections have been verified correct by consulting
- R. W. Burns, Communications: an international history of the formative years, p.77, Institution of Electrical Engineers, 2004 ISBN 0863413277.
6 October 2019: A further error corrected is that the original Gerke did not distinguish between "I" and "J". This is how the code is shown in Burns and Gerke's own Der praktische Telegraphist on page 126. There is no entry for "I".
