DescriptionView towards Mount from the Roman Fort at Slack - geograph.org.uk - 1081717.jpg
English: View towards Mount from the Roman Fort at Slack The foreground is in shadow from low cloud clinging to the Moors above Outlane, but the low winter sun picks out Junction 23 on the M62 motorway and the residential area of Mount. The motorway follows the same route through Outlane as did the Roman road from Chester to York. The Roman Fort at nearby Slack was sited on a south-facing hillside and sheltered from the north and west - an ideal place to rest before crossing the Pennine moors.
