Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme
Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme is a 2000 documentary film directed by DJ Organic / Kevin Fitzgerald. The film follows the art of freestyle, improvisational hip-hop. Made with the producers of Academy Award Nominated the film “Murderball” & the Venice Film Festival’s, Golden Lion Winner “Somewhere”. Over 15 years in the making, the world of improvisational hip hop, is explosively explored in this authentic look into the life, music and history of some of the most amazing MC’s ever to bless the mic! A.O. Scott of The New York Times calls it: “A Rousing Education in an Art form that is too often misunderstood”. This independent release includes extemporaneous performances by artists such as Supernatural, Mos Def, The Roots, Notorious B.I.G., Cut Chemist, Jurassic 5, and many others. Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme earned the “Documentary Jury Prize” at the Florida Film Festival; “Best Documentary” & “Audience Award” at the Pan-African Film Festival; “Best Soundtrack” award at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival; and was awarded the “BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY” Prize at the Karachi Film Festival. The film also screened as an OFFICIAL SELECTION at these festivals around the workd:
